Jonathan Lee Forgey

Jonathan Lee Forgey, age 72, of Crown Point, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 of cardiac arrest.

He was born February 19, 1945, the son of late Homer and Gladys Forgey. Jon was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years- Florence (nee Scheuer). He is survived by his son- Michael; brother- Dr. William Forgey. Jon was a graduate of Lew Wallace HS Class of 1964 and earned his degree at Indiana University in 1968. His mother, Gladys Harmack, was a member of the first graduating class at Lew Wallace in 1932. While at Lew Wallace he was an avid athlete. As a first string full back his junior year he suffered significant knee injury and was told he would never play again.  Typically for Jon, he not only played, but was a very successful first string player his senior year.

While at IU, he rode in the Little 500, and was a member of Acacia Fraternity. He retired from NIPSCO after 35 years. While at NIPSCO, he worked with telecommunications that gained him national attention and he became the National President and International Vice-President of the Telecom User’s Group.

Jon was a Past Master of Lake Lodge #157 in Crown Point; a Past High Priest of Albert H. Gary Chapter # 139 Royal Arch Masons; a member of York Rite College #73; an avid Shriner of Orak Temple and Member and Treasurer of Oraks Ritual Cast; devoted member of the Crown Point First Methodist Church.

He was on the Board of the Old Sheriff House Foundation. Jon devoted significant time and passion to preserving this amazing landmark as a memorial to the dedication of local law enforcement and correction officers.

Friends may visit with Jon’s family on Monday, May 15, 2017 from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. DIRECTLY at Crown Point First United Methodist Church, 352 S. Main St, Crown Point IN.

A Masonic service at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, per John’s wishes, donations may be made to the Crown Point Community Foundation, Gladys Harmack Forgey Trust supporting the Old Sheriff’s House. Burns Funeral Home, Crown Point, IN entrusted with arrangements.
